Arguably, Ghana’s number one reggae star, Blakk Rasta has proferred that the objective behind his music career is to teach black consciousness otherwise, he has failed.
Blakk Rasta who in his music includes conscious lyrics about blackness and humility and spiritual love who after his maiden Rasta Shine album in April 2000 is out with his latest album, Timbuktu By Road, having 32 Tracks which includes 4 collaborations.
In an interview on SABC News in South Africa, Blakk Rasta who also lectures on African History and Religion revealed that he draws his greatest inspiration for his music come from God.
He further explained that his inner drives stem from the desire to touch and bring transformation to society and to reconnect people to the most-high which has been his biggest source of inspiration and not to make hit songs.
“If money comes in, then that is just the bonus but I do it purposely because it is a calling from the most-high; I can never stop,” Blakk Rasta stated.
Touted as the biggest reggae drive time host in Africa, Blakk Rasta reiterated that it has become important to raise issues of black consciousness, to speak about spirituality and to spread love through music because of the true history of the black people must be told.
If I sing a song that does not reflect blackness, it does not reflect consciousness, I have failed. Honestly, I don’t go into the studio to make a song that is just going to make people move their feet for people to say this is a big song. No!” he said.
“I go into the studio inspired and I love it when people tell me, oh wow, I learned this thing from your song rather than your song made me drink and dance,” he added.
Blakk Rasta has over the years on radio and through his music been preaching powerfully about black consciousness and the black race and to demystify the orientation of being hewers of wood and drawers of water.
